The Yamaha MT1X is a compact multitrack recorder with a recording mixer, and is equipped with numerous versatile functions. Using conventional cassette tapes, the MT1X makes it easy for you to produce high quality multitrack recordings, allowing you to record or playback tracks separately as you choose.
Design-wise is one of the boldest objects Yamaha ever made: all black and DX green, extremely menacing, the boxiest of the black boxes. The forced repetition of the same controls for different purposes, all evenly spaced, can look very confusing — especially compared to its main competitor at the time, the Tascam Porta One.
The MT1X can record on all four tracks at once, has LED bar graphs rather than the Porta One's traditional meters, dbx noise reduction, normal tape speed, two-band EQ per channel, pitch control and offers a sync facility when linked to an optional MIDI box, the Yamaha YMC10.
Included in the box there was a carrying strap, at least the MT1X is way lighter to carry than the TC800GL.A battery pack could also be attached on the side of the unit.
